It’s officially oatmeal weather again. I recently discovered a new flavor of apple hitting the New England circuit lately. It’s called honey crisp and man, they are good. Taking this into consideration, I cut one up into small pieces last week and put it into my oatmeal, along with some brown sugar and…..voila! Rock. It was delicious.
I went over to a local coffee/sandwich joint for lunch the other day and I’m standing in line examining the menu when the owner looks at me over the counter and says, “hey, you posted a pictureof our cafe online!” I was kinda freaked out for a minute because I had no idea whatsoever how he knew it was me, but then I remembered that Fickr has little picture ID’s. Funny that he recognized me. That’s the first time anyone has really recognized my “online” life in real person.
Halloween was quite fun this year, of course, given it was the first halloween for our twins. We got them dressed up for about 10 minutes. Here’s Nathan, as a chili pepper:
I knew this day would come. We’re at a stage right now where our babies are starting to sleep through the night. You hear it all the time from parents, but let me tell you, this really is a true miracle. I now comprehend entirely why sleep deprivation is used as a means of torture. Anyway, this isn’t happening every night, but it’s happening with slightly more regularity. This means that anything is possible on any night – and that wreaks havoc on my baseball playoff watching.
You see, the jack-asses at the TV networks have to put the games on at 8:30pm eastern time because they’ll make more advertising dollars. This means that each night, it’s a roll of the dice for me. If I stay up and the babies have a bad night, I am screwed the next day. Go to bed early, I may miss more classic moments.
I went to bed early on Friday night – and missed Ramirez’s walk off BOMB, but got nearly nine hours of sleep as both babies snoozed straight through. You see my pickle? Each night I’m faced with this decision now…….I did stay up for the classic Yankees-Indians bug-infested tilt, though. That was a beauty of a game.
Yes, I know the site looks a little screwed up. I changed the design and am having some small issues. Now I don’t have time to fix them and even if I did have time, I don’t think I’d be able to. I’ve designed myself into a corner. Sort of. It will be fixed one way or another soon or I’ll revert to the old page and start from scratch.
Day three of vacation found us having to give one of our sons a concoction made up of prune juice, apple juice and water (1 oz. of each). I’m sure you can draw your own conclusions as to why. Needless to say, the results were volcanic. And successful. I’ve never tried prune juice, actually. But I did the opportunity yesterday and I took a sip. Being such a big fan of figs, I figured it wouldn’t be as terrible as it sounds. I mean, just hearing the words “prune juice” makes people wrinkle their forehead. Anyway, it wasn’t bad! I won’t be buying any more, but it wasn’t as offensive as it sounds. I should create my own line of fig juice.
Posting is light during vacation……..that’s on purpose.
Lots of good music starting to emerge in 2007. There’s a really solid new record out by Spoon, who will end up being one of my top 3 bands of the decade. I’ve also been enjoying the new albums by The Polyphonic Spree, The Figments, Josh Rouse and a band called Blitzen Trapper, whose name alone prompted me to listen to a couple of samples. Sometimes that’s all it takes – an interesting name. It’s rare that I end up liking bands just for their name, but it happened with these guys. Solid stuff.
But the one I’m probably most excited about is The New Pornographers, who I should have been listening to three years ago, but wasn’t. I picked up on them after their last album, Twin Cinema, came out (I think 2005) and their new album, called “Challengers,” comes out in August. Here’s a song from it. It’s not the usual crazy-catchy rock tune they’re known for, but as usual, after 3-4 listens, you’re bound to be hooked.

Many people are asking me if I’m getting any sleep with newborn twins now living in the house. I have a simple answer: hardly. 4-5 hours per night, intermittant.
