Well, I look back to that Seinfeld episode where Jerry had to vomit and he was upset, not because he was sick, but because he hadn’t vomited in 11 years and was upset that the streak was over. My personal streak: 14 years. The last time I vomited was in 1994 and that was from drinking, so I’m not sure it even counts (as a quick sidenote, I’ve only vomited from drinking three times in my life). If my memory serves me correctly, the last time I vomited from a non-drinking situation was after eating McDonalds food when I was about 10 or 11. That happened behind the Lancaster Pharmacy while my mother waited in the car out front. Anyway, yesterday my own streak came to an end. It started in the mid-afternoon when I felt like I had eaten too many pancakes or doughnuts. I wrote it off to a normal digestive process – until about 7pm.
Steph and I FINALLY got to go out – just the two of us – to one of our favorite restaurants in the Boston area, Cuchi Cuchi, and we were very excited. We had to cancel it last weekend because both of our babies have been playing tennis with a stomach virus for a couple of weeks now and throwing up a lot. However, I thought for sure by the time dinner came I’d be hungry and raring to go. Nope. I took about 6 bites and knew it wasn’t happening, so I remained on the sidelines while Steph enjoyed her dinner. I wasn’t feeling awful yet, just not hungry.
Fast forward to about 11:30pm. I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say that is when the train left the station. Today I’m sitting around under a blanket feeling generally like crap, but I did manage to get a banana down, so that’s a good sign. The streak is over, though.
I do have an odd fear of vomiting. I’m always afraid I’m going to do it in public places and totally embarrass myself. Or in a work meeting. I’m not sure where the fear comes from. I was glad that I was able to do it in the comfort of my own home and in the spirit of conquering your fears, it wasn’t as horrible as I thought it would be. It wasn’t fun by any stetch. This morning I woke up and hugged my babies and thanked them for the virus, but they’re too cute to hold a grudge against.
Yesterday I was thinking about my very first date. It popped into my mind when I went to the new Lowe’s in Leominster to exchange a ceiling light and drove by the street she lived on. Her name was Denise Schumacher and get this – she lived on Schumacher Road in Lancaster. You can’t make that up! It was the summer between 7th and 8th grade and both of us were psyched because “Ghostbusters” had just come out and we were dying to see it. We also both loved The Cars. Their new album, “Heartbreak City” had just come out and the single “Magic” was dominating the airwaves and it made for lots of good phone conversation (“is this better than their first album?” “No WAY!”). Anyway, my parents drove us to the theatre in Leominster and we saw the movie, which was great. Of course, I was way too terrified to try and hold her hand or put my arm around her, although I thought about it the entire time. And there you have it. My first date.
Today’s post generates two questions for you, readers. All you have to do is click on that little comments box and write the answers very quickly.
1) Who was your first date?
2) When was the last time you vomited?
The questions are very related!

ok. is it sad that i can’t even REMEMBER my first date? hmmmm. is it possible to never have had one?
last time i puked: MAY 2007 – post soccer game migraine – great for inducing PUKE!
1) first real date? hmm.. maybe the teen center with nate bastarache. 1989. we dated for a month. he loved metallica, I loved poison. it wasn’t meant to be.
2) vomit- I guess that would be 2001-ish, and for no apparent reason. I woke up at 6 A.M. (having not drank anything), vomited, and went back to bed. I have only thrown up twice in my adult life, and never from drinking. I have a similar, irrational fear of vomit (I’m pretty sure we’ve covered this before), and I’m very good at holding it down.
1) 1st date was with Bob Quinn (I think I was a sophomore??)
2) Last time I vomited was August 2006 after my surgery. I woke up with a terrible migraine and lost it!
