NOT taken last summer

I’ve never been too much afraid to poke some fun at myself. I recently dug up an old photo album that contains a treasure trove of old pictures of me from the mid-1970’s up through college. This, clearly, is one of the highlights. I assume it’s taken somewhere in the 1983-84 range. There is clearly a lot to appreciate here. The hair, for one, is funny, only because it’s dated. Back then, it was pretty normal. What I really enjoy is the sleeveless half-shirt and the socks pulled up to my knees. I think I’m also wearing a silver chain, which I do remember wearing in that timeframe. The short shorts are, like the hair, a product of the times. Believe it or not, I actually remember this picture being taken, but I don’t remember what I was doing. I am pretty sure it was some kind of chore that was invented to keep me busy and out of trouble! My pose here looks quite awkward and I am not sure why there’s a medium-sized rock in my hand. These are the things I desperately wish I could remember sometime.

I believe that is the front corner of my mother’s 1977 Mercury Cougar there in the middle-right of the photo. That car also brings back some memories, mostly how freaking hot it was in that car during the summer and how it caused the faux-leather car interior to smell kinda bad. That, combined with the cigarette smoke and ashtray, was sometimes pretty awful. It’s also the same car that my sister, all 4’9″ of her, had to sit on pillows and phone books in order to drive it when she got her license. The Coug lasted a long time, though, I think we had it for something like 5 or 6 years. More to come…….
