Fresh Local Fruit

Here’s one of the best things about summer: fresh fruit. There are no shortage of local farmers markets and farm stands in our area and when summer comes, it’s a fruit lover’s paradise. These particular berries come from Idlewild Farms in Acton, MA, a year round market that stocks all kinds of goodies, from fresh meats and cheeses to all kinds of yummy organics. The picture is raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries and I usually have those and throw in some granola, a little dollop of vanilla yogurt and some ground flaxseed.

Every Saturday from June to late September, Maynard has a farmer’s market in the parking lot of the old mill building (where Monster.com and others have their offices). Tons of local businesses set up tents and hawk their wares, including our favorite local, organic farmstand, Applefield Farm, who are on the cusp of selling their own homegrown corn-on-the-cob soon, which is so delicious it’s insane. There’s also a local farm that sets up shop at the market and sells their own fresh milk. I usually get a quart of lowfat chocolate milk and a quart of skim. Did you know that chocolate milk is one of the best things for you to drink after a workout? Interesting. They also have coffee milk, which is pretty delicious.

Anyway, there’s a taste of what our food lives are like in the summer. Nature’s candy, my friends.

By the way, see post below – I managed to connect ITunes with a couple of people now, but I want more! Send me a line if you want to be able to stream each other’s ITunes. Great stuff.
