It’s kind of like having a new apartment or re-arranging the furniture, huh? So the site clearly has some new digs. Most of the content remains the same – I added some media-related blogs in my list of recommendations and also tried to alphabetize the music and recommendations sections. I left the photo links alone, as I would prefer those remain chronological. Also, even though the comments section remains powered by Blogger, for some reason this template seem to make it a little easier to post comments. There will be other changes here and there. For example, I hate this font. I’m trying to figure out how to change it, but I’m no Dan Cederholm! Also, you might notice that the photo page is down. The reason for this is very simple: I fucked it up so badly that I can’t seem to fix it. Hells bells.
What if I sat down with you or went on television and said that I hope Barry Bonds doesn’t pass Babe Ruth on the all-time home runs list because I don’t want to see a black man pass a white man? That would be a horrific statement, and clearly racist. So why aren’t people completely up-in-arms over Bonds stating, quite matter-of-factly, that he really only wants to pass Ruth because Ruth is white? Bonds went on to say he didn’t really care about the all-time record, set by Hank Aaron, because Aaron was a black man. Can you even believe this? Is the lack of reaction to this in the media not a double-standard in the worst way?
I believe, and I hope you believe, that humans are all created equal. With that equality, however, comes equal responsibility and moral judgement. I realize this is not a perfect world by any stretch. The USA is still in many ways a very divided nation, but in better shape now, racially, than in previous generations. Bonds, however, should not be given any kind of leniency or free rides here. What he said was racist and while probably not on the same scale as the mutterings a few years back from that idiot John Rocker, Bonds is still deserving of more scrutiny than this. I hope any heat on Bonds doesn’t hurt his amazing numbers on the field, though, because he’s on my fantasy team.
